My name is Anna Korzhova. I am an assistent
of department of the “Innovative projecting” in Samara State University
of Architecture and Civil Engineering. This is a small report about
how I spent three wonderful months in Stuttgart and Stuttgarter Kunstverein
e.V. as a fellow in the autumn of 2011. Thank you very much for this wonderful
time to Hanns-Michael Rupprechter, Administrations of Stuttgart and Samara
and Regional Public Charitable Foundation "Centre of Contemporary Art"
of Samara. I can say for sure that the time, which spent in Stuttgart was
one of my best and most amazing experiences of my life. Three weeks after
my arrival in Stuttgart, I held an opening of my exhibition "Theory" in
the Stuttgarter Kunstverein. The exhibition worked from September 21 to
October 13. The exhibition includes four videos, which I made earlier:
"Visible", "String Theory", "Set Theory", "Space Time" and also I made
an installation . All works are united by one theme: the attempt to understand
science and its theories, through visual, artistic practice. How general
and common sciense low , in which people existe every day, how it
could be understand and interpret by artist and artistic strategy? The
exhibition in my opinion was successful - it was a lot of people, and importantly,
the audience was really interesting to understand the meaning of the works
and to do a dialogue and discussion with me. I was pleasantly surprised.
Special thanks to Hanns-Michael for organisation of parties for opening
and closing of my show. At the opening and closing of the exhibition was
made a lot of photos - you can see a photo report on the website as well
as all of the videos shown at the exhibition can be viewed here: http://vimeo.com/user4552632/videos.
I lived in the house Unterveger Manfred, at Werastrasse 109 , his place
is near the city center. Transport problems for me did not exist.
Almost everywhere it was possible to walk. Living conditions were excellent.
Shower, washing machine, electric stove, free internet and full freedom.
Manfred and his wife Kirsti van Aalst were very friendly and communicative,
they helped me in all my activities. Manfred and Christy invited me and
Hanns-Michael to the theater: it was veryinteresting program
of the modern theater «Schauspiel Stuttgart». I am very grateful
to them.A little bit about where I went during this time. When I m already
arrived , I was surpised at the incredible number of events that
could go every day, opening exhibitions, art festivals, concerts and just
a very interesting meetings. Of course, I tried to use this
amazing possibility and I tried to see almost all events. Hanns-Michael
helped me a lot in all cases - he organized a wonderfull program for me
every evening. Together we visited many interesting galleries, museums,
theaters and another interesting places. For me it was very important,
that I could orientate in the art-life of Stuttgart, and I did not feel
lonely. Very interesting was a festival of art - Art Alarm - an annual
art festival where all galleries open current and new exhibits for free
admission for a weekend. They organized a few lines with possibility to
use a free taxi for moving between them. Together with Hanns Michael, we
investigated almost all this lines and watched a lot of interesting galleries.
So, I can say that very quickly we've been in many galleries: Galerie Schlichtenmaier,
Andreas Henn Kunsthandel Galerie, Galerie Michael Strum, Galerie Mueller-Roth,
Artary, Galerie Franke, Galerie Angelika Harthan, Galerie Reinhard Hauff,
Galery Anja Ruming, Dengler und Dengler, 14 -1 Galerie, Galerie Merkle,
Schacher - Raum für Kunst. The idea of this art festival on the weekend
seemed to me very interesting. This is some kind of a general picture of
what is happening and presenting at this moment in art life of the city
as well for audience and artists too. Of course, I visited Staatgalerie.
I was very impressed by this great museum. I came there 5 or 6 times, for
have a possibility to look at the main museum's collection and changing
exhibitions on the first floor more details. I feeled the incredible feeling
when you look at the original paintings that I 've seen before only in
books or Internet. I liked very much a project of artist Melvin Moti
"Offenes Depot": The pictures from the archives of the Museum were exhibited
in the new context of group exposition. At the end of my stay in Stuttgart,
I once again returned to Staatgalerie, filled out a questionnaire on the
first floor and made a photo report about this place. I can recommend to
visit this museum especially at Wednesday and Saturday, when the is free
entrance. Also I want to write about my visit to the Kunstmuseum. This museus
I visited also several times. At first it was very interesting to see the
main collection, among which I first saw the classic artist of Stuttgart
Adolphe Heltselya. And of course no less interesting it was to see a temporary
exhibition of contemporary artists, "Ars Viva Labor ". In this exhibition,
I discovered a lot of very interesting artists and different art techniques:
Nina Canell, Markus Zimmermann, Andreas Zybach and Klara Hobza. I was impressed
by the architecture of the museum. It was also very useful for me finding
a bookshop on the first floor of the museum. For all future fellows I suggest
to look this place - here you can find many good and rare books. In Wurttembergischer
Kunstverein Stuttgart, I visited the exhibition of Peruvian artist Teresa
Burga. This artist, I did not know before. The exposition was giant, you
could see the different periods of the artist. It was great. Separately
I want to note the gallery Zero Arts, Gedok and Kuenstler House. In these
galleries, I also saw many interesting exhbitions. At the gallery Oberwelt
I have seen a very ironic exhibition «Kunstkrematorium».
With great delight I remember my trip
together with Hanns-Michael at Akademie Schloss Solitude. I can say that
I was very impressed about this incredibly beautiful place, architecture
of the castle, the location and views from the hill where the castle is
located. And of course, for me it was an interesting experience to see
an exhibition of artists who was a fellows of Solitude. Also
I want to say about few very interesting for me to trips, which was doing
during my stay in Stuttgart : trip to Strasbourg, Karlsruhe and Maulbron.
Thanks a lot for these trips to Jurgen Kierspel, he has organized them.
And also I want to say many thanks to Jürgen for his help in contacting
me with Kunstakademie. A trip to Stuttgart strongly changed me. I got an
incredible experience as an artist, as an architect. I want to say many
thanks to the Stuttgarter Kunstverein Gallery and Hanns Michael Rupprechter,
by them, I met many interesting artists, writers, critics, curators, with
who I plan joint projects in the future. In gallery Stuttgarter Kunstverein,
I met with two French artists Jerome Cavaliere and Sebastien Remy, a writer
and art critic from Paris Jean Louis Poitevin, a professor of architecture
at the University Klaus Peter Goebel, an anthropologist and scientist from
Tchechia Henry Dosedla and many other people, acquaintence with whom I
will always remember. I can say that meeting new people in the residence
is one of the most interesting and important events and hope that none
of this links will not be lost — I hope that it will be new common projects,
and just long friendship. I can not forget to write about the weather,
it was just amazing! all the time I can recall only one or maximum two
days of rainy weather - almost all time it was the sunny and warm. I can
say with certainty that I love Stuttgart and everybody with whom I spent
these wonderful days by all my heart. Many thanks for all to: Hanns-Michael
Rupprechter, Jurgen Kierspel, Ulli Berg, Martina Geiger-Gerlach,
Barbara Karsh-Chaieb, Krishna Subramania, Henry Dosedla, Georg Zaiss, Jean
Louis Poitevin, Klaus Peter Goebel, wolfgang spaeth. I hope that I will
come again to Stuttgart for many times!
