marek
The Worterbuch project
was born as an accident about two years ago.
I found the German-Polish
illustrated dictionary at the bookshelf of one of my friends. From that
time I was constantly thinking how to make use of it in a creative way.
This book is designed to
give a complete description of the world in any technical detail. But when
you examine its contents carefully you discover that it hides more then
it shows. For this reason I decided to switch the pages of the dictionary
and show you some fragments of it in the form of classroom educational
plates.
This work can give the viewer
several ways of reading: it can be a story about the language and the complicated
relation between words and things, it can be a political comment on the
way Germans looked at things in thirties and fifties ( this are the dates
of the edition of the dictionary), it can also be an ironic story about
misunderstanding, when you try to translate words into images or words
of one language into words of another one.
